Every Day is a Beautiful Day from God

I looked out the window at the gray sky and the rain falling down. I sighed and said, “Ugh, it’s not a very nice day out today, guys.” My two little boys were at the table eating their waffles and eggs and my oldest looked up and answered, “Yes it is, mommy. Every day is a beautiful day from God.”

“This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭118:24‬ ‭

Instantly, my heart was convicted, and I responded to him, “You are right, buddy. Every day is beautiful, rain or shine.” So many times his little six-year-old heart stops me in my tracks when I find myself starting to complain. He reminds me of God’s goodness and that everything has a purpose. He went on to tell me how we need rain for flowers and trees to grow and provide food, and how he loves rainy days to splash in puddles. This is how he looks at the world, my boy with the beautiful heart.

“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. “For you shall go out with joy, And be led out with peace; The mountains and the hills Shall break forth into singing before you, And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭55:10-12‬ ‭

Where we live so much of the year is warm and sunny. We aren’t used to very many gray and rainy days. We start to take for granted that every day will be the right weather to do what we have planned. But sometimes, God has other plans to bless us, through rain or storms, or days that seem “ugly.”

On this particular morning, I was talking with my son about the actual weather outside. But it made me think about it in a deeper way, reflecting on the circumstances and challenges we face day by day. Maybe you are going through a “sunny” season in life and everything is working out just right. Or maybe right now things seem “rainy”, gray, and dull, or even stormy and scary in your world.

No matter the weather, this day, whatever it looks like, is the one God made for you. This day is a gift. Today has a purpose.

“Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭139:16‬ ‭

My little boy’s words reminded me that rain produces growth; it gives new life to the flowers, the trees, and the grass. It makes them stronger and more beautiful to behold the next time the sun is shining. The struggles and challenges we face in life grow us in that same way. They produce perseverance, strength, and character.

When we witness God’s faithfulness time after time in the midst of trials, we are reminded us to trust Him more fully. We hope in the promise of His unfailing love. Like a flower that blooms after a storm, we become stronger and more beautiful witnesses to declare His goodness.

“And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭5:3-5‬ ‭

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”
‭‭James‬ ‭1:2-4‬ ‭

The next time you look out the window and the sky is gray and rainy, remember these words from my wise little boy, “Every day is a beautiful day from God.” Be thankful for the sunshine and be thankful for the rain. Look close and see the beauty in each and every day that God has made!
