14 Verses to Love on Valentine’s Day and Every Day

There is nothing more beautiful, more rich, or more precious than the love of God. He writes us a love letter through His Word, and we can read it every day. He gives us the gift of knowing Him and allows us to love others as He has shown us through His example.

We certainly don’t need a holiday or a special reason to talk about God’s love. I don’t usually pay very much attention to Valentine’s Day itself. But since it is that time of year, and love is on people’s minds, it can serve as a reminder to think about where real love comes from (not a candy box, flowers, or a greeting card) and what it looks like.

There are countless Bible verses that speak about love. In looking towards February 14th, here are 14 of my favorites that I want to share with you.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:4-7‬ ‭

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭5:8‬ ‭

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
‭‭John‬ ‭15:12-13‬ ‭

“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:9-10‬ ‭

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:43-45‬ ‭

“For the word of the Lord is right and true; He is faithful in all He does. The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of His unfailing love.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭33:4-5‬ ‭

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:12-14‬ ‭

“But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord’s praise, for He has been good to me.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭13:5-6‬ ‭

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭4:7-12‬ ‭

“We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭4:16‬ ‭

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:38-39‬ ‭

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.”
‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭16:34‬ ‭

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:13‬ ‭

I hope you enjoyed these verses and that you will keep them in your hearts. I pray that you will open up your own Bible and discover many more passages that teach us about God’s amazing love for His people. Let’s celebrate the blessing it is to love and be loved by God and others, today and every day!
